Gearing Up for South Brunswick Regional

cweiser.pngIn an effort to prepare for their toughest competition of the WGI season, the Sitao Winterguard has been very busy putting the final touches on their 2009 indoor production. Fourteen independent A guards will go head to head on Saturday March 21, 2009 in the prelims contest for the South Brunswick WGI Power Regional. Each of the talented groups will attempt to score well enough to make one of the 7 spots available for Sunday’s WGI final’s performance. The South Brunswick audience is definitely in store for some amazing performances from the Independent A class which begins at 2:30pm.

On the home front, the staff of Sitao is extremely pleased with the progress and growth of the program since their first WGI finals appearance in Pittsburgh, Pa. The show has taken on a whole new level of interaction within the theme of “Catch Me If You Can,” including a brand new ending that features the return of the weapon line in a playful game of rifle exchanges and “steals.” The 13 members of the unit invite you to come out and support all the hard work that they have done over the past weeks to prepare for their final regional before heading to Dayton for the World Championships.

Staff Excels at Bowling

bowling09.jpgThis past Saturday saw the match up of the staff against the Sitao members in a “bowl-off” at a local bowling alley.  The night included some very dramatic moments and innovations in bowling history.  Using four lanes, the group applied various “color guard” moves to their game.  Most notable was the bowling “ripple” from lane 1-4, and the Travis/Ryan left handed tip toe release into the opposite lanes.   Julie also treated everyone to the under leg, onto the butt release to the gutter - Llama gone crazy!

When the dust had settled on the evening, it was the staff who stood victorious (at least in their eyes).   Maybe next year for the little “loser” Llamas!

Success in Pittsburgh

2009-02-28-finals.jpgAfter a two hour rehearsal on Friday night, members and staff of the Sitao Winterguard loaded the trailer and van for their trip to the WGI Regional in Pittsburgh, Pa.  Thanks to the dedicated staff of Dance Sophisticates, the new uniforms arrived just in time and ready to wear for final run-throughs! The outfits completed the visual design for the 2009 program and certainly played a huge role in the success the group had at the regional.

The prelims performance was a solid run for the group and earned them a 4th place spot in the finals for Saturday evening. Only seven tenths of a point separated Sitao from the two units who had tied for second place.    O2 from Ohio took the top spot in the prelims performance.  The pressure to perform a great finals show was on for the 13 members of Sitao, especially since only 4 members had ever competed in a WGI finals show.

Saturday evening produced a performance for Sitao that was full of energy and a commitment to make a run for the top spots; however, it was not enough to move out of their fourth spot seed.  The group finished with an overall score of 74.  This number places them nationally in 16th place in their class.  15 units will advance into finals at the WGI Championships in Dayton, Oh.  The next WGI event for Sitao will be at the South Brunswick Power Regional on March 21, 2009.  Please come out and support the group as they continue on their journey to Dayton.
